ABN Display Requirements

Under the A New Tax System (Australian Business Number) Act 1999, businesses must display their ABN on certain documents. While emails are not explicitly listed, it's considered best practice — and often expected by clients and the ATO.

  • Include your 11-digit ABN in your email signature
  • Format: ABN XX XXX XXX XXX (with spaces for readability)
  • If you have an ACN, include it too: ACN XXX XXX XXX

Spam Act 2003

The Spam Act regulates commercial electronic messages. Your email signature should help you comply:

📋 Sender Identification

The Spam Act requires that the sender is clearly identified. Your signature fulfils this: name, business name, contact details.

📧 Contact Information

Must include accurate contact information. Your business address (physical or postal) should be accessible.

Industry-Specific Requirements

⚖️ Legal Practitioners

Must include practising certificate number, law society membership, and confidentiality disclaimer. See our lawyer signature templates.

🏠 Real Estate Agents

🔧 Engineers

💰 Financial Services

Confidentiality Disclaimers
